Curious Stories for Curious Minds

The judges thought she was far too old for the song she chose but within seconds, she forced them to take every word back…

When 68-year-old Jenny Darren, a bespectacled grandmother, stepped onto the Britain’s Got Talent stage in 2018, the judges had no idea what was coming.

Expecting a gentle ballad, they were left completely stunned when Jenny detonated the room with a fiery rendition of AC/DC’s ‘Highway to Hell.’ The audience erupted as her raw power and unstoppable energy tore through the theater.

Thankfully for viewers everywhere, the performance was captured on video and went on to rack up more than 13 million views online, turning Jenny into a global sensation.

She appeared on stage wearing a buttoned-up cardigan, looking every bit like a typical grandma. Then came the moment no one saw coming. Jenny unfastened the cardigan to reveal a black leather rocker outfit, and the shockwave hit instantly.

The entire audience, along with judges Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden, David Walliams, and Simon Cowell, froze in open-mouthed amazement.

Many in the theater had clearly braced themselves for something calm and nostalgic. Instead, Jenny launched straight into AC/DC’s legendary anthem, commanding the stage like a true rock veteran. By the final note, the crowd was on its feet, delivering a thunderous standing ovation.

Jenny Darren has been singing since the age of 12 and grew up inspired by rock giants like Jimmy Page. At one point in her life, she even worked as a backing vocalist for AC/DC and released four solo albums, featuring Nicko McBrain, drummer of Iron Maiden, as reported by The Radio Times.

After retiring, the Birmingham native decided it was time to return to what had always made her happiest: music.
