Victor Johannes experienced something extraordinary during a winter vacation in northern Sweden.
While skating on a frozen lake with his friends, they noticed something unusual in the distance. Through a small hole in the ice, they could make out the massive body of an animal beneath the surface.

It quickly became clear that a moose had fallen through the ice and was desperately trying to escape through the only unfrozen patch of water.
The moose attempted several times to pull itself out, but its size and weight made it impossible. Exhausted and freezing in the icy water, the animal was running out of strength.
‘We watched the moose try again and again, but it just couldn’t get out,’ Victor said. ‘We knew we had to help. The hole needed to be bigger.’

Without any special equipment, the friends began breaking the ice toward the shore, hoping the moose would understand and move in their direction. Although the shore wasn’t far, the effort was physically draining and extremely dangerous. At any moment, one of them could have slipped into the freezing water themselves.
Halfway through, it was clear the moose was barely holding on. Only its head remained above the surface, while its heavy body drifted helplessly beneath the ice. The animal was trembling, completely exhausted.

Then, gathering its last remaining strength, the moose finally managed to pull itself out of the water. Its legs shook violently as it struggled to stand. But once it reached solid ground, a sudden surge of energy took over. Without looking back, the moose staggered away from the lake and disappeared into the forest.
Relieved, the friends knew the animal was safe and uninjured. They continued on their journey, carrying with them the memory of the day they saved an innocent life from a tragic fate, a moment they would never forget.
