Let’s be honest nothing beats a gorgeous Christmas tree. The lighting ceremonies in big cities have become a huge part of the season, bringing crowds together to celebrate the magic.
New York
Okay, we all know the Rockefeller Center tree is the Christmas tree. Hollywood has basically turned it into an icon.
The tradition actually started back in 1931 during the Great Depression, when construction workers put up a small tree to lift their spirits.
Fast-forward to today, and we’ve got a massive Norway spruce chosen for its perfect shape and size always a big news story on its own.

Lisbon
Lisbon is definitely on the list of top Christmas destinations this year. The big tree at Terreiro do Paço lit up on November 23rd, complete with a light show and a concert by the beloved Portuguese singer Aurea.
Fun fact: Christmas trees became a thing in Portugal back in the 19th century thanks to King Consort D. Fernando II, who brought the tradition from Germany.

Milan
When it comes to glamour, Milan never disappointsespecially during the holidays. The city is filled with stunning trees, from classic to ultra-luxurious.
The main one at Piazza del Duomo is a 27.5-meter fir decorated with Olympic-themed ornaments, celebrating the upcoming games.
There’s also the breathtaking Dior Parfums tree in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, glowing in gold and inspired by Versailles.
And Milan really goes big: LEGO’s Brick Tree at Piazza Cordusio, Sephora’s interactive tree at Piazza San Babila, and Victoria’s Secret’s tree at Galleria del Corso make the whole city feel like a festive fashion show.

Strasbourg
Strasbourg takes Christmas to a whole new level. It’s not just about a single tree the entire city transforms into a magical world worthy of its title, “Capital of Christmas.”
Its Christmas market dates back to 1570, making it the oldest in France and one of the most historic in Europe.
While many cities focus on decorating their main squares, Strasbourg lights up all its streets, balconies, and storefronts, creating a fairytale atmosphere.

Sydney
Christmas in Sydney is a whole different vibe think festive lights, warm weather, and people celebrating in shorts and sunglasses. It’s unusual, but incredibly fun.
The tallest Christmas tree in New South Wales stands proudly at Martin Place. It shines with over 110,000 LED lights, a 3.4-meter color-changing star, and more than 300 glossy baubles.
To give it a proper Aussie twist, its 800 branches are decorated with 15,000 flowers inspired by native plants like waratah, bottlebrush, and kangaroo paw. It’s a bright, summery take on Christmas that only Australia could pull off.
