The bride truly had a “wet wedding” to remember. On Tuesday, she walked through a flooded church in the Philippines, where the water in some areas reached almost to her waist, before finally exchanging “I dos” with her groom.
Gilbert Chico and Lian Liza Chico were married at the Saint John the Baptist Church in Hagonoy, Bulacan province, despite the torrential rains and severe flooding that hit the region this week. The heavy downpours caused floodwater to pour into the church, with water levels reportedly reaching waist height in some sections, according to Viral Press.
“We had waited so long for this day, and we didn’t want the rain and flooding to stop us from getting married,” the newlyweds said.

“This may not have been the wedding we imagined, but it is the day we will never forget.”
The couple’s family members and friends gathered inside the flooded church to witness the extraordinary ceremony. Despite the difficult conditions, they remained determined to go ahead with their plans and celebrate the long-awaited moment surrounded by the people closest to them.
Footage filmed by a choir member from the church balcony captures the remarkable moment Lian begins walking down the aisle toward the altar. The water covers much of the church floor, creating an almost surreal scene as the bride carefully makes her way through it toward Gilbert, who is already waiting for her.
Rather than allowing the unusual circumstances to ruin the moment, Lian appears remarkably calm and focused as she walks through the murky floodwater. Her attention seems fixed entirely on reaching her future husband.
Photographers also continued working throughout the ceremony, doing their best to capture every detail of the extraordinary wedding. Their photographs documented a scene that looked very different from the traditional wedding setting the couple may have originally imagined.
As Lian made her way down the aisle, a gentle Filipino love song played inside the church. The peaceful music contrasted dramatically with the floodwater surrounding the guests and the difficult weather conditions outside.
The bride appeared determined to continue walking toward the altar, seemingly putting the water and inconvenience out of her mind. Step by step, she moved toward Gilbert, who stood beside the priest waiting for her arrival.

The couple had previously been advised by the parish council to consider postponing the ceremony because of the potential danger caused by the flooding and severe weather. However, Gilbert and Lian decided that they did not want to delay their wedding.
For them, the circumstances were far from ideal, but canceling the ceremony was not an option they wanted to consider. After waiting so long for their wedding day, they chose to continue with their plans despite the challenging conditions.
Their decision transformed what could have been a disappointing disruption into one of the most unforgettable wedding stories imaginable. Instead of elegant dry floors and a picture-perfect church entrance, Lian had to make her way through floodwater to reach the altar.
Yet the unusual conditions did not stop the couple from exchanging their vows and beginning their married life together.
The wedding took place as ongoing southwest monsoon rains battered parts of the Philippines. The heavy rainfall caused widespread flooding across several areas of Luzon, the country’s largest and most densely populated island.
The extreme weather created dangerous conditions in affected communities, forcing many residents to deal with rising water levels and disruption to their daily lives. For the couple, however, their wedding day continued despite the circumstances.

The images and video from the ceremony have since highlighted just how determined the newlyweds were to keep their promise to each other. Lian’s walk through the flooded church has become the defining image of their wedding, turning an otherwise difficult day into a story they are unlikely to ever forget.
There was no traditional grand entrance for this bride. Instead, she walked through cloudy floodwater while wearing her wedding dress, surrounded by relatives, friends and members of the church.
At the altar, Gilbert waited patiently for her.
And when she finally reached him, the flooding, the rain and the warnings about postponing the ceremony could no longer change the most important part of the day.
The couple said “I do” and became husband and wife.
Their story is a striking reminder that weddings do not always unfold according to plan. Sometimes, unexpected circumstances become the very thing that makes a wedding unforgettable. For Gilbert and Lian, the flood may have changed the setting, but it did not change their decision to begin their life together.
What was supposed to be an ordinary wedding day became a remarkable scene: a bride walking through waist-deep water toward the man she loved, while her family watched, photographers captured the moment and a love song played in the background.
It certainly was not the wedding they had pictured.
But it was a wedding they will probably never have to worry about forgetting.
