Imagine discovering a treasure worth nearly $100 million and not realizing it for an entire decade. That is exactly what happened to a fisherman from the Philippines whose incredible find later amazed people around the world.
More than ten years ago, a fisherman from Puerto Princesa, located on Palawan Island in the Philippines, was out on a routine fishing trip when something unusual happened. His boat’s anchor became stuck underwater, forcing him to dive down and investigate.

What he discovered was astonishing.
Attached near the anchor was an enormous pearl unlike anything he had ever seen. Despite its massive size and weight, he managed to bring it to the surface. The pearl weighed an incredible 34 kilograms (75 pounds) and measured approximately 66 centimeters long and 30 centimeters wide.
Although the find looked unusual, the fisherman had no idea how valuable it might be. Instead of seeking an appraisal, he simply took it home and kept it as a personal good-luck charm. Before heading out to sea, he would often touch the giant pearl, believing it brought him fortune during fishing trips.

For ten years, the remarkable treasure remained hidden in his home.
Everything changed when the fisherman decided to move. Transporting the giant pearl proved difficult, so he mentioned it to his aunt, who worked in the tourism industry. When she saw the object, she immediately realized it could be something extraordinary.
After discussions with local officials, the fisherman agreed to donate the pearl so that it could be displayed for the public. Today, the giant pearl is exhibited in Palawan, where visitors can see the remarkable discovery for themselves.

Experts believe the pearl may be the largest natural pearl ever found. It greatly exceeds the size of the famous Pearl of Lao Tzu, which was discovered in the same region in 1939 and weighs about 6.35 kilograms.
The story continues to fascinate people not only because of the pearl’s enormous size, but also because its owner unknowingly kept one of the world’s most extraordinary treasures under his bed for a decade.
Sometimes the greatest treasures are found when we least expect them.
