In the quiet fields of Kansas, farmer Jesse Blasi came up with an anniversary idea that would take eight months, one mile of land, and 65 million wheat seeds to complete.
This year, Jesse and his wife Sarah were celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary — and he wanted to do something unforgettable.
Inspired by another Kansas farmer who once planted an entire sunflower field for his wife, Jesse decided to grow his own love letter straight from the earth.

Back in October, he began secretly planning his surprise. Using modern farming tools — including a John Deere Air Seeder and two varieties of wheat — he carefully mapped out a massive message across his field:
👉 “Jesse + Sarah, 20 Years.”
For months, he nurtured the crop, tending to every seed and watching as the message slowly took shape. It was a labor of love — one he hoped would earn Sarah’s signature smile.

“I knew it would make her smile,” Jesse told KAKE News. “That was kind of the whole goal — to get that little grin out of her that I like.”
Jesse and Sarah’s love story began decades ago, when they met at a bar during their college days at Kansas State. A chance meeting — and a stoplight encounter later that night — was all it took to start something that would last a lifetime.

Over the next 20 years, the couple built a home, a thriving family farm, and raised two daughters, Reagan and Avery. But Jesse wanted to mark their milestone with something truly special.
Keeping the secret wasn’t easy. Other farmers began noticing the unusual pattern in his fields long before Sarah did. But Jesse stayed determined to wait for the perfect reveal.
Then, in early June, the moment came. Jesse took Sarah on a plane ride over their farm — and as she looked out the window, her jaw dropped.
Spread across the golden wheat was a breathtaking message in red chaff wheat, outlined by a lighter variety in the background:
