According to Kevin Pereira, an employee at the store, the appearance of the famous couple came as a complete surprise. Speaking to the Montreal Gazette, Pereira said that Trudeau and Perry had simply arrived at the store unexpectedly.
“They came in together by chance, with one security guard who stayed at the entrance,” Pereira explained.
The employee also said that the former prime minister and the pop star spent approximately 45 minutes inside the store while shopping. Their visit apparently began as a normal trip to a hardware store, but it ended with Trudeau dancing in the aisles to his son’s music while Perry recorded the whole thing.
Xavier Trudeau later shared the dance video, helping it spread quickly across Instagram. The unexpected footage attracted plenty of attention, although the reaction from viewers was far from unanimous.
Some commenters criticized the former prime minister, arguing that his carefree behavior seemed out of touch with the economic difficulties they believe Canada has experienced following his nine years in office.
