Brianna Lanoye had a wedding wish that most people would never think of she dreamed of celebrating her big day surrounded by kids,
ideally all of the hundreds of students she oversees as principal of the Buffalo Academy of Science Charter School in New York.
Because her students are such a huge part of her life, Brianna couldn’t imagine reaching one of life’s biggest milestones without them.
But with the high cost of venues and catering, she reluctantly accepted that her guest list would have to be small.
What she didn’t know was that her assistant principal, Courtney Champlin, had a far better plan.
In secret, Courtney rallied the students and staff to transform the school courtyard into a surprise wedding venue.
They set up a formal aisle lined with a red carpet, hung decorations around a white backdrop, and invited Brianna’s fiancé, Zach Klapp, to take part in the unforgettable moment.
When Courtney brought Brianna into the courtyard, the principal was instantly overwhelmed.
‘Instant tears. It was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen,’ she told WKBW News. ‘Just seeing our school community out here.’
A student officiated the ceremony, and Brianna and Zach exchanged heartfelt vows along with candy rings, since the real wedding bands wouldn’t arrive until their legal ceremony a few days later.
Students stood to give speeches, including one who said, ‘I want to personally thank you for all you did for me. I will never forget the difference you made in my life.’
Although the official wedding didn’t include the hundreds of children she adored, this magical “dress rehearsal” surrounded by her school community was everything Brianna had ever hoped for.
‘I was completely overwhelmed with joy and emotion,’she said. ‘To see the love and effort the students and team poured into this for me was one of the most touching moments of my life. This is a day I will truly never forget. They are all a part of my family.’
